Looking after the physical and medical needs of Moran at Little Bay residents and their families is only part of the answer. Pastoral care for the elderly can take on a whole new meaning.

People are spiritual beings - I believe that we are all created with a yearning after God. I used to be a doctor - I used to be a GP, and while being a GP is a great job, and it does help people, I went into ministry and became a minister because I believe that the spiritual needs of people are much greater, and I wanted to be involved in that part of people's lives.

With our church we're involved with a number of aged care facilities, and at Moran it will be similar to the other facilities that we're involved with. We run a Communion service during the week, every fortnight, and in my experience, elderly people love to sit and listen and be involved in something, and the Communion service is a wonderful way in which people can participate in being Christian, and sharing in the good news that Jesus came to bring.

The spiritual care of elderly people is just as important as amy other person, and we try to get young people involved in that as well, and the elderly people really embrace that wholeheartedly, enthusiastically - they love to be a part of it. Not only do they benefit, but we benefit as well because the Bible says that our parents and our elders are like a garland of graciousness and faithfulness around our neck. We can really learn from them - probably more than we can give to them.

It doesn't matter what religion they follow - Moran Healthcare respects everyone as I do, and if anyone does not want to attend the Communion service, then that is completely OK. We want to welcome those who want to come and of course respect the wishes of those who don't want to come.

I've lived here for nearly five years, and having an aged care facility like Moran is fantastic for our area. We just had a big community event a few days ago, it was the Christmas carols, and over 600 people came. A whole spectrum, a whole diverse range of people from right across the community got behind it.

If you look behind me, this chapel is magnificent building set on a magnificent coastline.
