The accommodation suites in Little Bay come in two sizes - large and extra large, with big bathrooms, featuring either water views or adjoining courtyards. The rooms are light and airy with high ceilings, perfect for contentment and comfort.
Every room is special, and they've all been carefully designed. They're large, airy rooms, they've got high ceilings. We have rooms with courtyards that are leading outside. Some rooms have sea views, and every room has the sea breeze coming through it. So it's wonderful for the residents in the evenings and in the mornings, if they want to sit outside in their courtyards or in the gardens and enjoy that nice breeze.
The colours are all very tranquil, we have a resort-like feel here. We have the beiges - residents can add their own colour to the rooms. Some of the residents bring in their own furniture. We have one resident who was working in sewing in her previous career, and she has her sewing machine here and she's always sewing garments and making clothes. We have someone who has a piano in their room, so the residents are able to bring whatever they need to make this like their home. And we encourage that.
The bathrooms are designed to be extra large, which gives residents a lot of room to be able to keep all of their personal belongings in it, and there's no feeling of being cluttered. The rooms are different in design - we have large rooms and extra large rooms. There is a lot of storage space and that has been designed with that in mind. Some residents who require more storage take on the extra large rooms. They've allowed for natural light into each room, so that every room presents as sunny, every room allows the sea breeze to come through, and you have a natural flow of the sea breeze and a sunny environment, and the residents are happy being in that environment. And often people speak about how they love being in such sunny, light areas. The areas have all been designed so that when you leave your room, you go into areas where the corridors have skylights throughout them. They're very wide, which the families and our residents all appreciate, the atriums throughout the area. The dining rooms that flow into the lounge rooms that go out into the gardens, and it's all beautifully designed. And as residents and families come in here, they are thrilled with the design that has been so particularly and carefully looked at, with residents' happiness in mind, and to be able to look at the gardens, which they used to be able to do at home.
We're very fortunate with the gardens, because a lot of the residents here enjoy their own gardening. They're given a small area that they might want to plant their favourite plants in. And the residents are in a secure garden - they can walk around, they can sit down on particular chairs, they can look at their gardens. We encourage them to have picnics with their families outside in the gardens or down by the sea at Little Bay.
The most important thing we believe in here is excellent nursing care. We carefully selected nurses to run the facility with many years of experience within Moran facilities, and who have excelled for their level of care. We know that if the residents are well cared for, they're happy, the staff are happy because they're caring well for the residents and it makes for a wonderful environment.
The buildings have been designed so that we have nursing stations very close to all the rooms, and there are always nurses at hand to support and assist the residents. We also do nurse education, and we have employed an excellent nurse educator, who has worked for a long time within the group, to ensure that we maintain the high standards, and the high care necessary for our residents. And also for our families, who are coming in and seeing their loved ones well looked after.
Part of the important side of care is how we entertain, and the activities that we have for our residents. It's very important, as they get older, that they still have cinema access. We have a wonderful screen, where the residents can go and have the cinema-like experience with the cinema pictures, the popcorn and watch movies, and they actually feel like they might be outside at a cinema, and they enjoy that.We also have physiotherapy sessions, where there's exercise classes. We have a full-time physiotherapist, who is specialised in aged care, and he does that side of things. We have the bus, which takes residents for outings. But there's constantly activities going for residents that they can choose to join in, or they can choose to do something on their own.
One of the favourite events that the residents enjoy here are our High Teas. What we do is invite the families to come in and sit with the residents, and we do a beautiful High Tea. Usually when we used to go out for High Tea, we used to go out in the afternoon, but the residents have chosen that they prefer it in the morning, because many of the residents have a nap in the afternoon.
We have both High Care and Low Care here, and aging in place. And what that means is that a couple will often come in and stay in our facility, and one of the partners may require more intensive care than the other. So what that means is they can both still join in on the same activities - they may have similar physiotherapy, they will still join in on the High Teas and all of the services that we offer - it just means that one requires more nursing care than the other. So couples can actually come in and have adjoining rooms, or they can have the same room - with a courtyard, or the sea views upstairs.
We have a fabulous dining room here, where they may actually be used as a private dining room, and the resident can actually use it with their family. We might have fifteen of the family here, and they'll eat and have beautiful food together, as they might for Christmas or a birthday celebration, and they've also got the courtyard adjoining the dining room. So it all feels very much like it would at home, or outside of the facility. One of our main things in here is not to create a sterile nursing home environment. This is to be like a beautiful home, and this facility offers that.
