Moran at Little Bay's core value is care. Moran Healthcare has built its reputation on that for over fifty-five years. Now whether you require around-the-clock or casual care, Moran prides itself on delivering the very best of it.

Moran at Little Bay is a larger facility, it's a newer facility - it's more light and airy. On admission, we go through the process of what the admission is and then we look at the care needs for that resident. We find out the history of that resident and what's been happening in their home, and what's happened in their lives so that we can meet their needs on an individual basis. Then we often have meetings - usually six weeks after the initial admission process - where we have a meeting with the family to see where we're at and how we're travelling. We just like to make sure that we are meeting the needs of the residents, see if there are any little hiccups that we can smooth out.

I like to have that sort of open-door policy, where anyone can just come in and talk, and discuss any issues that they may have. I think it's looking at a resident and identifying that they are an individual to start off with, that their care needs are individual. I'd like to think that I'm treating the residents as I would like to be treated myself basically. We have the best staff - in our management team alone we have two other directors of nursing who have been with the Moran Healthcare Group. One is taking on an education role, and that is three days a week, and we've got a care and lifestyle manager as well. Each of them have been successful in their own roles, in their own homes as well - one out at Hurstville and one out at Fernleigh, which is out near West Ryde.

Our recruitment process is that we make sure that the staff we require have the attributes that are needed for the position that they're going for. Training is ongoing - we identify the needs, and if we find that somebody is suitable for a position, we find that we might need to upskill them. We have good people, and we ensure that. We're out there, we're monitoring all the time what's going on out on the floor, and we make sure that if there are any issues that we address them straight away. We're looking for that security and comfort that we promote that we are giving.

Not only is it important that we care for our residents, but we have to make sure that our families are looked after as well. So I have to know that we have the appropriate staff here so that families can go home, safe in the knowledge that their family member is here being looked after. I know that my mum would be happy to be here, and I know that I'd be happy to be here as well.
