"I paint portraits because I love people and I need to paint.

"I want my portraits to embody the simple human truth of the subject, I want to paint portraits which go beyond mere mimetic representation of social status or stature, portraits which are imbued with all that is essentially human, the strengths and weaknesses, dreams and desires of each individual character.

"Ultimately my portraits are about my sitter, myself and our interaction during the process of painting. This close interaction affords the insight into, and the experience of the person I am painting and that I wish to share with the viewer. I want to enfold the viewer, to convey through paint an experience of the sitter that is as real and tangible as my own.

"My portrait Peter is of my good friend Peter Bonner, 'PB'."
