NEVILLE PETERKIN
BORN COFFS HARBOUR, NEW SOUTH WALES 1947
WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Neville served in the Royal Australian Air Force for twenty years and while there was awarded the Queen's Commendation for Valuable Service. He studied art in Sydney at Julian Ashton's and under Graeme Inson, and then abstract expressionism in Salzburg, Austria. He is presently completing Architecture at Curtin University in Perth.

"I aim to create works with a strong underlying concept, clear design and rich content.

"I found Allan a perfect subject with which to attempt a design where something so precise as the end of the bow could be balanced completely by the mass of his unique profile. Being a modest person, Allan is depicted in profile in order to avoid direct personal confrontation. Minimal perspective, combined with stiff unadorned austerity permits a viewer's own interpretation, minimising translation through my personal (in my opinion) overlay.

"Born in Scotland, Allan studied viola in London. Arriving in Western Australia in 1979, he joined the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra and has been a Member ever since, also playing in various chamber orchestras in the State, and being actively involved in the Player's Association of the Orchestra.

"He was my next door neighbour."
